Disney bought Lucasfilm.
Woah.
Throughout the last ten or fifteen years, the flagships of my childhood have been in such upheaval, I hardly recognize the landscape of my pop culture memories. And if I trace it back to the root, it all really began May 19th, 1999 at 12:01 AM. This, of course, was the release of The Phantom Menace, a film I had been waiting to see since before I can remember. I remember leaving the theater confused and trying to remain optimistic that my favorite movies were not being crippled by the very thing I longed for so much.
But that was not to be.
Years later, with the prequels complete, I remain disappointed and lost as to why the films could not live up to my hopes. This is not another lamentation of the issues with episodes 1, 2 and 3. Dragging people through that isn't going to do much good. But there is an opportunity that has struck me a few days after reading the news that the two largest pillars of a kid from the 1980's ever saw have fused into one. And this is it: Reboot Star Wars.
Now before you bust out the pitchforks, I am referring to the prequels. This will always be about the prequels. And I'm just one fan asking a huge company to do something momentous. But I believe it can be done. There are so many reasons for Disney to want to reboot them for a fanbase that has been active and loyal for so long. And it's this fanbase I'm calling to now. I've started a petition to send to Disney, I hope you'll sign it and start making noise in the communities you live and socialize in that this is something you want. Please, stay positive and focus on how great Star Wars is and how much you long for a rebooted story like so many other franchises have received.
Right now, it's just an idea of one fan.
